Make Homemade Tomato Sauce

-Ingredients:
2 pounds of fresh, ripe tomatoes (about 9 medium-sized)
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
A handful of fresh basil leaves, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried basil)
Salt and pepper to taste
-Preparation Steps:
1.Prepare the Tomatoes:
Score a small “x” at the bottom of each tomato and blanch them in boiling water for about 30 seconds.
Remove the tomatoes and place them in cold water. Peel off the skins, then remove the seeds and roughly chop the tomatoes.
2.Cook the Base:
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add the chopped onions and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
3.Simmer the Sauce:
Add the chopped tomatoes to the pot.
Stir in the basil, salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar if desired.
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4.Finishing Touches:
Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
For a smoother sauce, use a blender or food processor to puree to your desired consistency.
