1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp of baking soda
1/2 tsp of salt
1 tsp of white vinegar
1 tsp of vanilla extract

1 cup of cold water
For the Frosting (Optional):
1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup of butter, melted
1/4 cup of hot water
2 cups of powdered sugar
1 tsp of vanilla extract
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
Make three wells in the dry ingredients. Pour the vinegar into one well, the vanilla extract into the second, and the vegetable oil into the third.
Pour the cold water over the entire mixture. Stir until just combined and the batter is smooth. Do not overmix.
Step 2: Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

In a medium bowl, combine the unsweetened cocoa powder and melted butter. Mix until smooth.
